The fashion in America was soon transformed from the 1950's to a whole new era. This was the youth style. The youth style originally started in London from where it quickly spread to the rest of the world. This new fashion was also reffered to as modern fashion. It was slim fitting and featured bold geometric shapes. The grey, brown and pastels from the 1950's were switched for brighter colors in the 1960's.
For the first time in the 1960's the mini skirt apperared. Until this, the skirts and dresses would've been just about knee length. They created huge controversy when first appearing, because they showed centimeters of the thigh never seen before. In 1965 an English model wore a short, white dress without gloves, stockings or a hat. This was considered scandalous and made headlines around the world. By the end of the 1960's the short dresses and skirts were widely accepted. |
